Due to overwhelming interest in the Inaugural National Health Impact Assessment Meeting, registration is now closed for general meeting attendees. We had to limit the number of meeting participants to ensure a high quality, comfortable meeting for all attendees with proper space and staffing.

WAITING LIST INSTRUCTIONS
If you would like to be considered for a waiting list, please complete the standard registration process. Upon completion, however, your registration will be assigned a “pending” status in the system and will only be finalized if you are invited to attend the meeting off of the waiting list. Please note that you will be required to submit credit card information to hold your place on the waiting list, but you will NOT be charged the registration fee unless you are invited to attend the meeting. A waiting list confirmation email will be automatically generated upon completion of the waiting list registration process.

Background Information/Seeking: On February 28, 2012, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Community Catalyst issued a Call for Proposals for the second round of funding under the Roadmaps to Health Community Grants program. The goal is to issue up to 20 new grants (of up to $200,000 each) in 2012 to organizations that address one of the social or economic factors that, as defined by the County Health Rankings, most strongly influence health outcomes in their community.

Call for Proposals: Pilot Testing Community Resiliency- Implementing THRIVE
Background Information/Seeking: NNPHI and the Prevention Institute (PI) are collaborating to update the Community Tool for Health Resilience in Vulnerable Environments (THRIVE), and to implement the use of the tool with select Public Health Institutes (PHIs). Originally developed and piloted in 2002-04, THRIVE assists communities to identify and prioritize local determinants of health and to develop effective strategies to achieve equity and improve health and safety. THRIVE has been used as an assessment, planning and strategy development tool in diverse communities across the country. Up to 3 PHIs will each receive $5000 to conduct a training on the use of the THRIVE tool in communities within their region. In addition to the $5000 award, selected pilot sites will receive two travel stipends to attend the one-day train the trainer THRIVE workshop and receive two complimentary registrations to the NNPHI Annual Conference for the attendees of the THRIVE workshop Complete eligibility and selection criteria can be found in the Call for Proposals.

Background Information/Seeking: NNPHI and the CDC's Office of the Associate Director for Policy (OADP) are seeking projects for the 2012 Public Health Policy Competition, an annual event that serves to foster a greater awareness of policy as an intervention to support public health goals; inspire cross-CDC agency and public health institute-CDC collaboration; and promote innovative policy interventions. CDC staff submitted proposals for innovative policy projects that met this year’s competition criteria. NNPHI is now soliciting proposals from its member institutes for policy approaches to address the issues presented in the selected CDC entries. NNPHI, along with a CDC panel, will select two winning projects. Winning NNPHI members will be paired with CDC teams to conduct the selected projects. The winning projects will be funded up to $125,000 each via the NNPHI-CDC cooperative agreement.

The Public Health Law Series’ April webinar, “Nutrition as a Winnable Battle,” will look at how law and policy might play a role in successfully improving nutrition, including sugar-sweetened beverage taxes, nutrition labeling revisions, consumer protection lawsuits, menu labeling, food marketing standards, front of package labeling, and sodium reduction strategies.
Panelists (from the Yale Rudd Center, John Hopkins, Public Health Law Center and CDC) will discuss areas where public health has succeeded in changing the policy landscape and also discuss past efforts where success is less clear.

Please join NNPHI for a two-part webinar series, Community Health Assessment: The Latest News from NNPHI and Public Health Institutes. The two webinars and a town hall session at the NNPHI 2012 conference will provide an opportunity for NNPHI staff and NNPHI members to share with each other about the latest work in the rapidly developing arena related to community health assessments/community health needs assessments (CHA/CHNA) across public health departments and nonprofit hospitals.
