FEIP 2009 Matching Grant Program Workshop

NNPHI held a workshop for grantees of the FEIP Matching Grant Program on May 6th, 2009 to continue collective learning in order to accelerate and deepen emerging institute capacity for impact and sustainability. NNPHI shared it’s view of the future through the learnings of the Public Health Institute Assessment Project and NNPHI Board strategic planning sessions. A brainstorming session on ideas for action going forward individually and collectively was held. A working session on applying “Communiciations for Sustainability” encouraged emerging institutes to brainstorm a communications issue or situation that they wanted advice on. Several communications experts from estabilished public health institutes attended the session and shared their expertise. The session concluded with an activity which helped each of the emerging institutes craft an “elevator speech” or communication messaging for their institute.

Guest Communications Experts included:

  • Dina Baker- Public Health Management Corporation
  • Paul Quinn- Health Policy Institute of Ohio
  • Hollis Cohen- Public Health Solutions

Keys to Success: Entrepreneurial Leadership

Entrepreneurial Leadership has been identified through the Fostering Emerging Institutes Project as an important component to the success of an institute. The ability to take risks, work between boundaries and leverage resources are all valuable tools for leaders in the creation of a public health institute. Sustainability Curriculum: 2007-2009

A series of webinars was created for the grantees of the Matching Grant Program, April 2007- March 2009.  This series was based on the Georgia Health Policy Center’s recommendations for a sustainability curriculum that would promote sound organizational development among emerging institutes.  Topics included Foundation Funding, Emotional Intelligence, Evaluation Tied to Return on Investment, Communication for Multiple Stakeholders, among others.
